I turned to art as a form of therapy and self-expression when chronic illness limited my life.
Glass has the ability to go into the flame or the kiln and heal itself, and working with glass has a similar healing power for me. When I am mesmerized by molten glass on my torch or finding the perfect colors, patterns and textures for a fused piece, it distracts from pain and brings only pleasure (despite the burns and cuts that go hand-in-hand with working with glass!). The techniques I use range from lampwork to powder printing.
My Bala Cynwyd, Pa., studio holds a large selection of Bullseye Glass Co.’s art quality sheet glass in what I like to call my own personal rainbow. Nothing makes me happier than pulling sheets of brightly colored glass to make something beautiful that will bring joy to its future owners.
Themes of hearts and flowers show up repeatedly in my work. It’s corny, I know, but they make my heart happy. :)
I continue to make functional pieces but time spent experimenting during the pandemic quarantine led me to embrace making wall art and sculpture as well.
